Overheard in a restaurant:
Him: “Would you ever get a minivan?”
Her: “Ugh, no. Never.”
Him: “Good. Me neither.”
It seems to me that a lot of people hate the minivan. Yet compared to SUVs of a similar size, minivans are safer, get better gas mileage, and have a more refined ride. Oh, and they’re cheaper, too.
And yet people still hate them. Why?
It’s because of the soccer mom story. Automakers know this, and are trying to persuade consumers to see the minivan in a new light.
But once people believe a story, they resist changing their minds.
Calling the minivan a “man-van” won’t make any difference.
